Statement and Bio

I am attracted to vast, open spaces and the meeting of land, sea and sky.  My paintings are a distillation of the natural world into its basic elements of land, water and atmosphere. They are imagined landscapes, non-narrative, quite and still . I feel my work is peaceful and meditative. It is my hope that these paintings invite the viewer in, where the eye is allowed to rest on the horizon and the mind is allowed to wander.

I was born in Oxford, England, grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. I have lived in New York, California and Japan. I love exploring the world (but always seems to come home to Cleveland).
I studied at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY (1988-1992) and The Cleveland Institute of Art (1996-1998).

Michael’s work is held in private collections across the country and has had gallery showings in Ohio, New York and California. Additionally his paintings have been exhibited at: The Cleveland Museum of Natural History, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, The Cleveland State University Art Gallery, The College of Wooster Art Museum, The Wayne Center for the Arts, Ursuline College, The Massillon Museum of Art and The Artist Archives of The Western Reserve.
